Cold Corner Kennels
A small kennel for working Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dogs

About us

The main slogan: There is a life without dogs, but this is a very empty life.

I own dogs since 1985. The start was an amazing mix called Dixie. After her I started in german shepherds, was competing there in IPO, working a little bit as a figurant as well.

In 1993 I went into the world of sleddogs and started a life with Alaskan Huskies. For normal people an insane life. There was an average of 20 to 24 dogs and peaked at 36. Competition all over middle europe, training and normal dog life ruled my life over years. It found an end in 2000, when I could not compete on snow due to personal reasons- There the running on snow was missing, what was the reward for months of training on dirt, having that amount of dogs for the whole year. The first holiday without dogs came in 2002

The Catahoulas: In 1997 I heard the first time of this wonderful breed, but there was not much you could figure out here in europe.

I guess it was 2009 when I accompanied a coworker twice to czech republic for checking out catahoulas at a breeder and on a breed meeting. Whomever I asked about hunting, the response was always the same: Noone hunts them, but they will hunt.

Coming from a hunting background it was absolutely clear that this will not be my way. I wanted them for hunting.  In 2009 I went the first time to Canada and got there to meet a guy, that had them as farm dogs to protect their horses from coyotes. There I got a hint to what should later become my "destiny" - I heard about Renee ML Jackson. Renee was  breeding those dogs in 4th generation of natives out of the tribe of choctaw. She is the president of the Working Catahoula Association, Jena LA and lives just a few miles away from the catahoula lake. We got in contact and it was a hit from the very first beginning. She became a lot for me. She gave me the trust to get her dogs, where all my breeding is based on, she gave me support for many, many years now. She gave me insights about the heritage, the breed, the work, the breeding, treatments and a lot more. Renee became my mentor, big supporter and almost endless source of wisdom. Thanks a big lot for that! Over the years I managed to get six dogs from her. That is where my breedings based. Old lines, old blood, back to the roots so to say

The breeds in my life:

Mix breed, german shepherd, alaskan husky, american bulldog, irish wolfhound, kleiner Münsterländer, Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, Pudelpointer

What we breed for

Cold Corner Kennels is a small kennel for working catahoulas. Our main goal is to preserve the breed as it is, as a working breed! We try our best to breed for healthy dogs that are able to fulfill the heritage of the Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Cur Dog. We breed for work ethic. WE DO NOT BREED FOR COLOUR! There is one saying we strictly believe in: "A good dog has no colour!"

Breeding

Now and then we have a litter. Here you find 7 really good females. But still we have a litter in an average like every 1 1/2 years. A litter needs to fit in the circumstances of life. When it is time for a litter, it needs to be sure, we can have full focus in raising them! They usually meet hogs as puppies, get often started in tracking and experience a lot of socialising., bith weith people an other dogs. We want to deliver the best!

The goal is always to find great homes for the puppies! We do not only sell to hunters, we also trust good dog people with our puppies, but the dogs will need to have a job. Please feel free to contact if you are interested

Some Philosophic Stuff

In 50+ years you figure out things for yourself. Things you learn, things you experience. This forms you as a person, how you are and who you are. And this includes your thinking about dogs and things in life in general

Dog breeds have been developed for a purpose, either it is hunting, working, herding, guarding, protection and many more. Countless breeds have been destroyed, and it mainly started when the breeding aimed for the look, for the exterieur and no longer for the work ethics. Do not let the Catahoula Leopard Dog become one of them, because they are on their way to.

A good dog has no colour!

Experience, knowledge,  science should never be run down by ideology, attitude!

Try to get this book, read it, understand it and act: https://www.isbn.de/buch/9783980723602/der-jahrtausendirrtum-der-veterinaermedizin. It is an eye.opener.

Avoid fighting, fighting almost never makes sense, run away as long as you can. If you need to fight, go all in. Do not fight for winning, make sure it will never come back again.

If you live your life without a goal, you don`t live, you just exist.

If you listen whithout thinking, follow without questioning you have a big risk to become like a sheep. Thinking and questioning is freedom.

Think outside the box!
